Rainy Burano

written by Julia Lundin May 9, 2015

PL1_8011Hey guys! I couldn’t wait to show this shoot to you and tell you the story of how it happened. So here we go.

While getting ready for our trip to Venice, I’ve been recommended to also visit an island of Burano which is about an hour away by the boat from Venice. After googling it and seeing how colourful it was I made it my goal to not leave Italy without shooting an outfit in this ‘toy town’. Looking at the Google images I couldn’t believe that a place like this really exists!

So while being in Venice it became clear that the only time for us to make it to Burano would be on our last day right before our flight. I’ve been looking at the forecast days before and was hoping that the heavy rain predictions would magically go away and be replaced by the sunshine. A girl can dream, right? Also because a couple of days ago we took a train to a small Italian town about an hour away from Venice, our trip to Burano was much longer and not as easy as we hoped for. We had to first take our luggage to the airport, then take a boat to Murano (which is another island famous for its glass blowing, while Burano is famous for its lace production). From Murano we had to take another boat to Burano (can’t there be a direct boat from the airport?!) and ALL of this in a heavy rain and wind. Murano, Burano, Murano, Burano…. I know, right!:)

After I finally saw this beautiful island the tough journey was so worth it! I am quite sure that there isn’t another place in the world that looks like that and I’m so happy I visited it. So as the whole purpose of spending three hours to get there was to shoot a blog post I was faced with yet another obstacle (thanks to this weather). I had this dress, suede jacket and heels with me in the bag and that was supposed to be the outfit I intended to shoot. While having a lunch in the local spaghetteria and hoping for rain to stop it became clear that my heels and suede jacket plan had to be changed to my converse and leather jacket one. And I think it worked great as I could have fun in the rain without worrying too much about ruining my clothes. Oh and of course the rain has stopped ten minutes after we were done shooting.

So how do you like this amazing place? Have you been to Burano?

Enjoy your weekend!

p.s. This is my most colourful post to date and I’m not sure anything will ever outdo it.

Your outfit is super fun, Julia! I really love that dress. Actually, I have a similar dress from Maje, but it is longer and it’s white.

Yep, sometimes things go wrong when travelling!:) We visited Venice two years ago, but we never went to Murano. This place looks fantastic! It’s definitely on my list now:)
