Good morning New York and good afternoon Europe! I am up early because 1) I wanted to share this diary from NYFW Day 1 and 2) there is no time to sleep in this city. If you have been following me on social media you probably already know quite a lot about my first days here. I have been sharing a lot mostly because I just can’t keep it to myself. I am crazy about New York! I love everything about it! Everywhere I turn it just seems like another scene from the movie. I walk and smile all day and have to keep pinching myself as all of it seems like a dream. And I am also filming a lot and will make a video diary later.
So let’s start from the beginning. I flew in on Wednesday and checked into the iconic Empire Hotel. This alone was already enough to become unbelievably excited as I’ve seen it on the screen of the TV so many times (think Gossip Girl and Chuck Bass for starters). After unpacking I headed straight to my blow-dry appointment with Spoke & Weal Soho who did an amazing job which was unfortunately quickly ruined by rain and thunderstorm. Though that didn’t stop me from wondering all over downtown at all. I have decided to not take taxis or subway, but to walk to my first event of the fashion week to be able to film and soak in the New York City vibes (by the way getting around New York is so easy with a CityMapper app). After that event jet lag got to me, and after a wonder around my hotel and amazing views from it’s rooftop I was fast asleep at 9.30 pm.
Next morning I was up at 6am and got plenty of time to get ready for NYFW Day 1. And so it began! Outfit wise, I decided to wear a ‘cute with an edge’ white dress from Maje as it was perfect for a cloudy day, yet not too perfect for the whole day of rain. I obviously had no umbrella and somewhere in the middle of the day I decided to embrace the fact that my make up, hair and me are going to stay wet for the rest of the day. Also, before I forget to mention it – it’s SO HOT and humid in New York these days! Pretty much anything warmer than shorts is too warm. But I love the fact that it feels just like Summer again.
So my first day included a visit to Maybelline lounge at Milk Studios Penthouse, where you can come in and chill, eat, recharge and do make up; I went to the Tadashi Shoji and star-studded Desigual shows; and I finished my evening at the Heidi Klum party for Macy’s INC 30th birthday. So the day was a whirlwind of excitement, experiences and emotions! And it was only the beginning. I am going to try and update you everyday. So stay tuned.
