Weekend in Rome at Rome Cavalieri

Hey guys, so as you probably already know I spent last weekend in Rome. It was my first time visiting this beautiful city and we had a really fun weekend packed with activities. We stayed in the most gorgeous hotel – Waldorf Astoria Rome Cavalieri – and had a chance to experience everything that it has to offer its visitors. First of all the location of the hotel was just amazing! It is situated close to the city centre, yet gives you the feeling of privacy and a resort-like stay at the same time. So it is perfect for people who want to combine a city break with a chilling by the pool type of holiday. We definitely had a chance to experience both.

Upon our arrival to Rome, we headed straight to the city and had our first dinner right near the Trevi fountain. With the greatest assortment of Italian classic dishes and a food guide, we had a chance to not only have a fabulous meal but also to learn everything about finding the best places to eat and avoiding tourist traps. And after we were done with our dinner we went on a vintage Vespa evening tour of Rome. I have never done anything like this before and wasn’t even sure whether I was going to be scared or not, but I ended up absolutely loving the experience! And so after a couple of hours on the back of the Vespa we all arrived at Rome Cavalieri Hotel.

The chicness of the hotel is hard to describe in words. It reminded me of a museum and a palace at the same time. Everywhere you looked whether it’s the reception, the corridors or the suits everything is drowning in luxury. On our last day, we had an art tour of the hotel during which the guide highlighted some of the most exclusive pieces from one of the greatest private collections that are held in this hotel (over a thousand treasures ranging from 16th Century masters to contemporary art; from Nureyev’s ballet costumes to Gallé glass).

A separate mention needs to go to the food that we experienced in Rome Cavalieri. While the breakfast selection already blew me away it was a mere hint at what we were in for later. On the top floor of the hotel, there is the three Michelin star La Pergola restaurant, that has held its stars for 10 years in a row. And what made it even more exclusive is the fact that we got to chat to the La Pergola head chef Heinz Beck himself. The food was like nothing I ever tried before and just thinking back to that experience is making me envious of myself. We also visited the wine cellar that holds more than 70,000 bottles of wine some of which are so rare and are true collector’s pieces.

I can talk about everything we ate at Rome Cavalieri for so long, but to make the story shorter I just have to mention that we also had a picnic in the park of the hotel which was beautiful. And on the last day, we had a Sunday brunch in L’Uliveto restaurant with a selection that had everything from oysters to sushi to fresh pasta and grilled fish. It is literally like being in my personal little heaven.

We also went on a guided shopping tour to one of the most famous shopping streets in Rome. The absolute highlight of the tour was a visit to Palazzo Fendi and being able to meet the people who produce their famous furs and standing at the same place that Karl sometimes does himself.

And last, but not least we also had a morning yoga session and a great treatment in the hotel’s La Prairie Spa. And I shouldn’t forget to mention that all this time the weather was very hot, the sun was shining and I don’t think I could’ve had a better introduction to this wonderful city.
