Tucson, Arizona

Mount Lemmon

Here is the third and final part of my Arizona trip diary. After staying at the ranch and driving to Bisbee, we then returned to Tucson to explore the actual city and its area. We wanted to see some museums, exhibitions, vintage shops and to eat as much guac, nachos and tacos as possible. We also planned to take a drive to the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum and to the top of the Mount Lemmon. Three nights and lots of plans!

Let me show you some of these places.

San Xavier Mission/ Tucson AZ

SAN XAVIER MISSION

Visiting San Xavier Mission in Tucson is an absolute must! Just look how stunning it is! It was founded as a Catholic mission in 1692. Construction of the current church began in 1783 and was completed in 1797.

ARIZONA-SONORA DESERT MUSEUM

Visit the desert museum if you want to see all the various cacti in one place along with bobcats, hummingbirds and rattlesnakes. It’s such a beautiful and informative place! Located just west of Tucson, it features two miles of walking paths traversing 21 acres of desert landscape. It’s a park, it’s a zoo, it’s a botanical garden – it’s just wonderful!

LOEWS VENTANA CANYON RESORT

We spent three nights in the luxurious Loews Ventana Canyon Resort located just 30 minutes drive away from the Tucson city centre. It’s a truly magnificent property, the design and grounds of which truly embrace the local landscape.

With it’s 398 luxury guestrooms, including 27 suites, 2 heated pools and jacuzzi, 37,000 square feet of indoor and nearly 40,000 square feet of outdoor space, 2 golf courses, 4 lighted tennis courts with mountain views and the Lakeside Spa,  it is no surprise that it was named in Travel + Leisure’s 2014 list of the Top 50 Hotels for World’s Best Family Travel.

MOUNT LEMMON

And, finally, one of the most stunning destinations in Tucson, Arizona – the mighty Mount Lemmon. It goes up to almost 3,000 m and overlooks the city. It’s breathtaking and must be on everyone’s to-do list.

Our trip was so exciting and memorable. It was my very first time anywhere in the United States besides New York City. The landscapes, nature, some of the food – it was all new to me and it gave me a great taste of how much there is still to explore in the US. I just can’t recommend visiting Tucson enough! It was Patrik who got me so excited about it after his first visit and, now, I hope I can convince you guys to plan a trip there too! You and your Instagram feed won’t regret it!
